A little mince round the corner and the next stop is the Affinity Bar at 129 St James Street. It opened as the Infinity Bar in 2018, but after a polite request from the shop and bakery Infinity Foods, the name was tweaked to avoid confusion. Travelling back in time to 2012 this used to be a different gay bar called Poison Ivy. Once again, I’m not going to spoil the tales people have to tell, but it was known as a venue that did things slightly differently, and sometimes excessively! Before that, the venue opened in 1993 as a coffee bar / sex shop / community focal point (which is quite an achievement), known as Scene 22. The name reflected the original address of the shop across town at 22 Preston Street, which they took with them when they relocated.
