Radical Rhizomes x Queer Heritage South presents: QTIBPoC Zine Session

6:15 pm, Tuesday 15th September 2026

Location: The Ledward Centre

Tickets: Free, booking essential

On June 18th we came together to make pages to go into a QTIBPoC Zine reflecting the QTIBPoC experience in Brighton and Hove.

Let’s put our zine together!

On September 15th please come along and contribute something to go into the zine, or help to order, collate and contextualise it. You can also make a page if you didn’t make it to the last session, or if you want to make another one!

Join us for this community-driven, informal and social event where we come together as members of Brighton’s QTIBPoC community to create something that can reflect us and our history in years to come.

We plan for the Zine to be printed and everyone who has contributed will get a copy. We also hope it will be exhibited in the Queer Heritage South exhibition in 2027.

This session is open to anyone, whether you consider yourself creative or you don’t, we want to see your saved images and items and hear your stories, thoughts and expression of being you - a queer person of colour in Brighton - and get your input for the Zine.

Things to bring, contribute or make during the session include:

Your photos - of people, objects, places that have meaning for you
Thoughts on QTIBPoC life in Brighton - past, present and future
A short history of your journey to be here
Interviews
Your artwork - illustration, collage, doodles, graphics
Poetry/prose
Quotes - from RR members, well-known QTIBPoC figures, academics, artists
Essays/life writing
Screenshots/memes
Reviews - of music, theatre, films that have shaped your QTIBPoC existence
Recommendations
Profiles - of Brighton-based QTIBPoC, or inspirational figures
Your recipes, or family recipes you love

*You can send digital photos to in advance and we can print them for you (if we have enough notice)

Facilitated by Laura Edmans and Erin James, and with creative materials and prompts available, we invite you to contribute as much or as little as you want. This will be a creative, archival pamphlet that not only documents our existence but actively celebrates it. We hope this workshop can serve as a social healing space for us to gather and reflect, so come one, come all.

Access
If you have any other access requirements, please let us know in advance by emailing radicalrhizomes@gmail.com

We try and make sure there are as few barriers to people joining our events as possible. We can pay for members to take taxis to/from events for reasons such as disability, health conditions, wellbeing and personal safety if it means they can come along and would not otherwise be able to. Please book a taxi ticket in addition to your main ticket if you require this, but please be aware that we have a limited budget for this so only do so if you need it. We would ask you to book and pay for your taxi/s and  keep the receipt/s. We can then reimburse you if you fill in a short form which we will send to those who have requested taxi 'tickets'.

Food
We will be enjoying a delicious vegan meal and there will be gluten free options. Please get in touch if you have any dietary requirements.

If you have any queries, please email us at radicalrhizomes@gmail.com

Buddy system
We are trialling a buddy system to help welcome new members into Radical Rhizomes. If this is your first Rhizomes event and/or you are feeling nervous about coming along and meeting new people, you can book an 'I'd love to be paired with a buddy' 'ticket' in additional to your regular ticket. If you feel more comfortable in the group and able to offer yourself as a buddy you can book an 'I can be a buddy...' 'ticket' in addition to your regular ticket. Then we will e-introduce you so that you can come together and hang out! These end 24 hours before the event start time so that we can pair you.
