SoundcloudThe tour starts off outside Brighton Dome in Church Street, where many LGBTQ+ performers have appeared over the years. The Brighton Festival and Fringe have often been the occasion for some of the more unusual events to happen under its impressive roof. One such happening was the Alternative Miss Brighton competition. A cross between a comedy show and a drag pageant, it was held here in 1992.
If you turn 180 degrees and scan the restaurants and bars on the opposite side of the road, you will see the Black Horse pub. It’s long been a gay-friendly establishment, appropriate for a venue in an area likely to attract a theatrical crowd. So friendly in fact that it’s affectionately known in certain circles as The Pink Pony.
